Physio For Sports Injuries
Our principal physio, Matt, has worked with a wide range of athletes and sporting teams from local footy all the way up to professionals and olympians so has a great understanding of how to manage injuries in athletes and the importance of reducing the amount of games missed. Most of our physios come from a strong sporting background themselves and know what it means to train hard and compete, and how disruptive injuries can be to an athlete. We know injuries suck but we take pride in helping athletes through a difficult time and minimising the downside of the injury. This includes minimising swelling and optimising healing early on, and helping to plan a safe amount of training as the injury progresses to keep your body moving and able to return to play as soon as possible.
Sports that we commonly work with include:
- Soccer
- Rugby League/Union
- Basketball
- Netball
- Hockey
- Touch
- Cheerleading
- Tennis
- Swimming

What do physiotherapists do?
Physiotherapists use a variety of techniques to treat sports injuries, including:
- Manual therapy: This involves the use of hands-on techniques to improve range of motion, reduce pain, and increase flexibility.
- Exercise therapy: Physiotherapists will prescribe exercises to strengthen the muscles both in the injured area and any others that affect the mechanics of that area to help prevent future injuries.
- Taping and bracing: In some cases, physiotherapists may use tape or a brace to support the injured area and prevent further injury.
- Education: Physiotherapists will educate athletes about their injury and how to prevent it from happening again.
How can physiotherapy help me recover from a sports injury?
Physiotherapy can help you recover from a sports injury in a number of ways:
- Reduce pain: Physiotherapy can help to reduce pain and inflammation, which can help you to move more freely and get back to your sport sooner.
- Improve range of motion: Physiotherapy can help to improve range of motion, which can help you to perform your sport at your best.
- Increase strength: Physiotherapy can help to increase strength, which can help to prevent further injury.
- Prevent re-injury: Physiotherapy can help you to identify and correct any movement patterns that may have contributed to your injury. This can help you to prevent re-injury in the future.
If you have suffered a sports injury, it is important to see a physiotherapist as soon as possible. The sooner you start treatment, the quicker and easier your recovery will be and the sooner you can return to what you love!
