Matt Fagg

Principal Physiotherapist

Matt grew up in Newcastle and trained and the University of Newcastle, graduating in 2007. After graduating, he worked in Newcastle for several years at Kotara, Broadmeadow and Jesmond before spending 5 years working, travelling and playing basketball around various parts of Australia and the world.

Matt has extensive experience as a Physiotherapist, having been a physio for the Newcastle Knights, National Basketball League, National Touch League, NEAFL and various amateur teams for Netball, AFL, Rugby League and Basketball.

Since graduating, Matt has continued his education in Physiotherapy through various courses, inservices and practical experience with some of Australia’s leading specialists. Matt is also trained in dry needling and cupping which can complement traditional physiotherapy techniques, especially in relieving muscle spasms and pain.

Matt has a special interest in hip, knee and shoulder conditions, including arthritis and overuse conditions as well as sports injuries. Matt has also been getting great results in relieving neck and back pains and headaches.

Matt is keen and ready to help you, and always puts his best effort into each session. He is interested in a range of topics from sport to travel and world issues and still plays basketball socially. Matt works Tuesday and Thursday at Wallsend and Monday and Friday at Redhead.

Keith Chapman

Senior Physiotherapist

Keith graduated from the University of Brighton with Honours in 1995 and worked in the National Health Service in the UK for six years, as well as being the club physiotherapist for Royston Rugby Union Club.

In 2001 Keith moved to Australia and Newcastle, doing hospital work for a year before merging into private practice. Keith has worked in several physio clinics in the Newcastle area and has vast experience in assessing and treating musculoskeletal conditions. He has worked with Olympic Swimmers, Professional Basketball Players, Champion Runners and countless Local Star Athletes/Sportspeople.

Keith is still a keen learner and regularly attends physio courses to keep updated on the latest developments in the physiotherapy profession. He is trained in Dry Needling and Acupuncture and is a Certified Level 1 Sports Physiotherapist. Keith loves treating Swimming Injuries, Sports Injuries and any conditions in the Knee, Ankle and Foot.

Outside of work, Keith enjoys time with his children and keeping fit with regular gym sessions, swimming and martial arts. He follows EPL soccer and international rugby keenly, and enjoys watching most other sports when he has the time.

Marnus Botha Physio in Wallsend

Marnus Botha

Physiotherapist

Marnus grew up living throughout various parts of Australia before graduating with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Newcastle in 2019. Since then, he has worked around the Port Macquarie and Newcastle areas, gaining experience in a range of manual therapy and treatment techniques.

Marnus has a particular interest in musculoskeletal injuries and post-operative rehabilitation. Combining a range of treatment options and evidence-based practice he looks forward to helping with your recovery.

When he is not treating patients, you can find Marnus walking along the Newcastle beaches, playing guitar and playing soccer.

Shelby Candian

Physiotherapist

Shelby is a local Newcastle girl, growing up in Kotara and studying at the University of Newcastle. Shelby worked with us for several years as a receptionist while she was studying and impressed us that much that we hired her as a Physio!

Shelby is an avid dancer and is very involved in her dancing as well as teaching and choreographing for others. She is trained in pre-pointe assessment and loves treating all dance-related pains/injuries. Her other hobbies include reading, listening to music, keeping fit and spending time with family (including her dog Wilson).

Shelby has a passion for treating dancing injuries, and also has an interest in Women’s Health and Pilates. She has a great drive for learning and being the best she can be and hopes to continue growing throughout her career and eventually specialising. She prides herself on providing individualised care for all of her patients and really getting to know the person behind the condition.

Ben Jones

Physiotherapist

Ben is a local and joins us after graduating from Newcastle University in 2022. As part of his degree, Ben spent a year of intensive training in Coffs Harbour with a focus on regional and rural health which gave him skills to overcome challenges and be resourceful as a physio.

Ben is a sports fan with a particular interest in soccer. He is keen to help anyone with their sporting injuries but it also skilled at treating general conditions.

Gemma Wickham

Physiotherapist

Gemma grew up in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, before moving here to study at the University of Newcastle. She fell in love with the town and decided to stay and build her career in Newcastle.

Gemma played a lot of sports growing up and still likes playing socially. She is a keen distance runner and competes at a high level in surf boat rowing.

Gemma loves being able to help people with their pains and injuries and can help with any condition. She is particularly interested in sports injury rehab, neck and back pain and shoulder issues.

Neesha Shimmen Physiotherapist

Neesha Shimmen

Physiotherapist (Locum during May 2024)

Neesha was inspired by the practice of Physiotherapy at young age, after experiencing
the profound positive impact that Physio treatment had on her health and well-being.

Motivated to share her passion for Physiotherapy with her community, Neesha studied at La Trobe University, achieving a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Masters of Physiotherapy Practice. During this time she worked as an allied health assistant alongside physiotherapists, delivering hydrotherapy and an arthritis specific group exercise program.

Whilst gaining experience completing clinical placement in a sports injury private practice, she discovered her passion for injury rehabilitation.
Neesha has continued to further developed her experience in private practice working
for the past 18 months in a rural Victorian Physiotherapy clinic. She thoroughly enjoys
helping people find relief from symptoms of various short and long-term injuries and
conditions to optimise their health and help members of the community to achieve
their goals.

Neesha has also been practicing and teaching yoga for many years and enjoys traveling
and staying active in the outdoors in her free time. She loves sharing the benefits of a
balanced lifestyle that inspires wellness and works with all members of the community.
